Roasted & Candied Chili Nuts

Make a simple snack for the weekend or serve roasted chili nuts as an aperitif at summer barbecues. Use strong Hungarian chili peppers for heat!

One tip is to mix all your favorites, such as walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.

Ingredients:

about 5 dl mixed nuts, kernels or seeds

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons water

1 pinch chili flakes

1 pinch of salt flakes

Do this:

Start by grinding the sun-dried chili peppers in a mortar . Meanwhile, roast the nuts on a baking sheet in the oven, but be careful not to burn them!

Then melt the sugar in a hot frying pan together with the chili flakes and let it melt until it turns an amber color. Avoid stirring the caramel to prevent lumps!

Stir in the nuts, add the water and pour directly onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Separate the nuts with two forks and sprinkle with flaked salt.
